Cord Blood Registry - The Name to Trust The CBR Connection

CBR Builds on Financial Strength, Despite Uncertain Economy

By all accounts, 2008 was an extraordinary year. Our country and the entire global financial markets have faced pressures no one has ever seen, and the worst may not be over.

Yet despite the challenges we've faced, CBR is ending the year in our strongest position ever. We're now safeguarding the stem cells of more than 250,000 newborns. And thanks to remarkable discoveries about the autologous use of cord blood stem cells to treat conditions like brain injury and cerebral palsy, we've now released more than 100 cord blood samples for medical use.

Everywhere I look, I find new reasons to feel optimistic about the state of our business and our industry. In the next 12 months, we will release more cord blood stem cell units for medical use than in the last 12 years. Research continues to emerge about potential new uses for cord blood stem cells - for example, scientists recently discovered that hearing loss due to cochlear damage may be repaired by transplantation of human umbilical cord stem cells. I'm also encouraged by the good news we've heard from many CBR families, who have witnessed impressive changes in their children following stem cell infusions. As pioneering research continues in the autologous use of cord blood stem cells, I suspect we'll have many more breakthroughs to celebrate in the years ahead.
